First Visit

What should I expect on my frist visit?

Patients are seen by appointment, Monday through Friday during office hours. While we make every effort to minimize waiting time, we appreciate your patience during emergency situations requiring immediate attention. Please allow at least one hour for your office visit. In the event you are unable to keep your appointment, please advise our office at your earliest convenience so that we may accommodate another patient.

History and Physical examination-A thorough examination will be performed by your highly trained orthopaedic specialist to determine the diagnosis and treatment of the issue at hand. This portion of the examination will be performed by either the physician or his mid-level provider.

Diagnostics-During the examination the provider will determine if any diagnostic tests are needed for further evaluation. OAWF, has gone to great lengths to accommodate your diagnostic needs and to provide the most seamless care possible.

Digital x-ray- All of our X-Rays are digital encoded (no film processing), drastically cutting down the amount of radiation exposure to the patient and waiting time. In-turn the technology of Digital Imaging gives your provider the advantage of an immediate second opinion if needed by any of the sub-specialist in the group at any of our offices. Click on DX-RAYinfo for more information.

MRI- Our in-house magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is state-of-the-art and, like our X-Rays, are LY encoded digital and in house. Please click on the following link to get more information about MRI and what to expect when you have an appointment for a MRI. Click on MRIinfo for more information.

Bone density (Dexascan) - Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry, commonly known as a Dexascan is a method of Bone Mineral Density Assessment that is used to:

  • Detect the presence of osteoporosis in men and women with particular risk factors; particularly in women making decisions about hormone replacement therapy at menopause.
  • Predict future fracture risk.
  • Monitor bone density in those at risk for osteoporosis/or those with osteoporosis undergoing treatment.

EMG- Electromyography (EMG), involves testing the electrical activity of the muscles. An EMG may aid with the diagnosis of nerve compression or injury such as carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve root injury such as sciatica, and/or other problems of the muscles and nerves. Less common medical conditions include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, and muscular dystrophy. Click on EMGinfo for more information.

Evaluation and Treatment

Once your physician has obtained all of the necessary information, he will complete an accurate evaluation and explain the treatment options available.
